Fans Were Wowed By Abba's New 10-Track Album And Virtual Concert.

Key Sentence:

  • Pop legend Abba surprised and delighted fans with the announcement of their first studio album in 40 years.

Abba Voyage is in November, ahead of a series of "revolutionary" concerts where virtual avatars will play hits like Mamma Mia and Waterloo. The quartet, which disbanded in 1982, said they met in the recording studio while working on a stage show.

"It was just two songs at first, and then we said, 'Well, maybe we should make a few more,'" said Benny Anderson. They ended up recording ten songs - two of which were presented at a global press conference on Thursday. The first, "I Still Have Faith in You," is an attached piano ballad that depicts the relationship between the group's four members.

"When Benny played the melody, I just knew that it had to be for us," says Björn Ulway, explaining the origins of the song. "It's about realizing that it's unthinkable to be where we are today. No idea can dream of releasing an album in 40 years and still being good friends and enjoying being together and having complete loyalty.

"Who saw that? Nobody."

The second song, Don't Shut Me Down, is a mini-melodrama in the spirit of Abba's classic The Day Before You Came, in which a woman returns to her partner years after leaving.

"I ask you not to go; it's me again - and I still love you," sing Agneta Faltski and Ani-Fried Lyngstad in preserved harmony. Both songs will have their November 5 release on Abba Voyage, aiming for a lucrative Christmas market. The record will even include a "little Christmas carol," Benny said, as well as "several pop songs."

A long meeting seemed unlikely. The band reportedly turned down $1 billion to tour in 2000. In a 2013 interview with the, Agnetha said she would instead leave Aba in the past.

In a statement at Thursday's announcement, the singer said she "didn't know what to expect" when they finally reunited in 2018. "But Benny's recording studio is a friendly and safe environment, and before I knew it, I was having a perfect time!"

However, the pianist admitted that he was nervous before the first recording session.

"Five minutes before they walked into the studio, I thought, 'I should have asked if they could still sing,'" she said. "But they can and can and will hear it if you listen to the tape." However, none of the singers attended the press conference at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London.

"They should be here," said Björn halfheartedly, "but they don't enjoy this [publicity] as much as Benny does."
