Does India have any clean rivers or lakes?

Most people would not know this but there is a river in India, looking at which; it seems as if a boat is floating in the air over it. The water here is completely clean. Yes, you heard it right. India has a river where the water is cleanest. We are talking about the Umngot river located in Meghalaya. Umngot River is also known as Dawki Lake.


Umngot River is considered to be the cleanest river not only of India but also of the whole Asia. Looking at the river, it seems as if the bottom of a river is transparent like glass. The river is so clear that you can easily see all the stones inside the river and not only the stones but other things that are floating inside, can also be seen clearly.


In 2013, Discover India declared this river as the cleanest river in Asia. Not only this, the place from where Umngot river flows is named Mawlynnong. The village has been given the title of the ‘Cleanest Village in Asia’. Mawlynnong is a village situated on the Indo-Bangladesh border in Meghalaya. In 2003, Mawlynnong which is also called 'God's Own Garden' got the status of the 'Asia’s Cleanest Village' and for the last 18 years this village remains at the top in cleanliness. Even the literacy rate of this place is 100 percent.
