Director Matt Reeves Confirms Batman 2: "This Is Fun For Me"
Matt Reeves announced his plans to write and direct Batman 2 during an appearance at CinemaCon in Las Vegas on Tuesday - with Robert Pattinson reprising his role as Bruce Wayne.
Robert Pattinson and "the whole team" will return for Batman 2, writer-director Matt Reeves announced Tuesday.
Taking the stage at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, Reeves confirmed his plans to write and direct the blockbuster sequel, telling audiences, "It's exciting for me."
During the exciting announcement, Reeves, 56, admitted that he is a massive fan of Pattinson's character and is "excited to return to this world for the next chapter." However, Reeves did not provide further details on the upcoming project.
According to Variety, Batman hit theaters on March 4 and grossed $128.5 million from its theatrical debut in 4,417 theaters nationwide.
The success was the second-best film opening since the COVID-19 pandemic, behind Spider-Man: No Way Home, which debuted in late 2021 and grossed $260 million in its first weekend. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Batman's impressive win also marks Reeve's biggest opener.
This Reeves-directed film is also the longest-running Batman film with 2 hours 55 minutes, including credits. Speaking to The NY Times in February, Reeves spoke of the show for nearly three hours, saying, "Once you see the film, I think it's okay. It captivates, guides you, and captivates you.
"Anyway, it's one more time," Reeves added.
In addition to 35-year-old Pattinson, Batman also stars Zoe Kravitz as Selina Kyle / The Catwoman, Peter Sarsgaard as District Attorney Gil Colson, Paul Dano as Ridder, and Colin Farrell Oswald Cobblepot / Penguin, Andy Serfis as Lieutenant James Gordon of Alfred Wright.
