Derby Pride Expands Entertainment Line-Up for Upcoming Event

New Alternative Tent and Expanded Line-Up Promise Exciting Additions to This Year’s Event

Derby Pride is set to elevate its family-friendly LGBTQ+ event this Saturday with the introduction of an Alternative Tent, adding a new dimension to the festivities. Alongside the main arena in Markeaton Park, which remains suitable for all ages, the Alternative Tent will offer a more eclectic mix of entertainment.

Introducing the Alternative Tent

The Alternative Tent, which is noted for its parental guidance content, will feature a vibrant lineup of local musicians and drag performers. This addition aims to bring a fresh edge to the event, curated by John Smith, the landlord of The Vic near the train station, known for its nightly band performances.

Events Director Tom Murphy shared his excitement about the new tent: “The alternative tent will bring something new to Derby Pride. Hosted by John Smith, it will showcase bands and drag acts, offering a unique twist to our celebrations.”

Main Arena Highlights

The main Pride event, running from 12:00 BST to 18:00 BST, will be headlined by the iconic 90s band East 17. Attendees can also enjoy a diverse range of activities, including a funfair, market stalls, a wrestling ring, and a dedicated Families Zone.

This year’s line-up includes tribute performances by Lauren Porter, who will pay homage to Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift, alongside DJ Will, DJ Adz, drag performers Betty Bangs and Ken Lambert, and singer Danielle Barnett of the Urban Cookie Collective. Soraya Vivian, the event’s longstanding compere, will also be returning to host the festivities.

Weather and Expectations

Despite a forecast of cooler autumn weather compared to last year’s September heatwave, Murphy remains optimistic. “Last year was fantastic, but at 35 degrees, it was quite intense. This year should be more comfortable,” he noted. “We’re excited to have East 17 and incredible tribute acts. It’s like seeing the real deal for free.”

Murphy emphasized the importance of the event in providing visibility and a voice for the LGBTQ+ community. “Everyone’s welcome. It’s great that we can continue to host events like this and give people a platform.”
