Debenhams Store in Wigan to Become Vibrant Entertainment and Retail Hub
A former Debenhams store in Wigan's Grand Arcade is set to be transformed into a dynamic entertainment and retail hub, following approval from local councillors. The development, spearheaded by Stack, will feature a variety of amenities including bars, street food outlets, and performance stages, aiming to revitalize the space and enhance the local community's experience.
The Debenhams store, which shut its doors in 2021, has been temporarily occupied by the pop-up charity shop Rebuild With Hope. With the new plans in place, the building will be refitted to host Stack’s innovative concept, which has already seen success in other locations.
Neill Winch, Chief Executive of Stack, expressed enthusiasm about the project, stating, “I am confident that it will become a beloved destination embraced by the local community.” Stack, known for its successful ventures in Newcastle, Sunderland, and Lincoln, aims to breathe new life into underutilized spaces, turning them into vibrant destinations that support both local communities and businesses.
The new Stack development in Wigan will occupy part of the former Debenhams store and is designed to accommodate up to 2,000 people across two floors. This exciting venture is expected to create around 140 new jobs in the area, further contributing to the local economy.
With this project, Stack continues its strategic direction of revitalizing spaces and creating hubs that cater to diverse community needs. The development promises to be a significant addition to Wigan, offering a lively environment for socializing, dining, and entertainment.
