Dave Grohl: 'I dreamt I was shot in the back'

It was the mid 1980s, when terms like Armageddon, atomic winter and commonly guaranteed obliteration were as regular as isolate or lockdown are today.

Growing up close enough to touch the Pentagon and the White House in Washington, DC, Grohl inferred that "if there was a war, we would be the primary individuals to bite the dust".

"I would have these fantasies of rockets in the sky and officers in my back yard," he says. "I strikingly recollect a fantasy where I was remaining in my back yard and I saw a warrior come out from behind a tree and, as I went to run back to my room, I was shot in the back.

"So I just consistently envisioned that there would have been a war and that is the means by which I would die at 11 or 12 years of age."

Spoiler alert: He didn't kick the bucket.

All things considered, Grohl proceeded to turn into the drummer for Nirvana, the frontman of Foo Contenders, a prominent narrative creator and the overall Most pleasant Man In Rock™.

Yet, those youth fears returned flooding in 2019 when his girl Harper halted him in the school run and asked, "Father, is there going to be a war?"

"I surmise that she'd turned on the TV and had seen something about North Korea or Iran, or whatever it was," he says. "Yet, it quickly took me back to those fantasies, and it was awful to imagine that she was feeling that equivalent miserable dread that I had when I was a child."

The acknowledgment incited him to compose a melody - Looking out For A War - about discovering light in the dimness. After a day, it had been recorded for consideration on Foo Warriors' tenth collection.

"It's a troublesome time for any child, with the pandemic and the isolates and lockdowns," says Grohl.

"I believe it's essential to by one way or another ingrain trust, in our children as well as on the planet, since I've generally viewed myself as a cheerful individual. The thing gets me to the furthest limit of consistently."

He deserted to Hawaii with his family, cooking and self-teaching while at the same time going "mix insane" attempting to sort out when shows could continue, permitting the collection to come out.

"Following quite a while of pausing and pausing, and pausing, I at long last understood that these melodies were intended to be heard: Regardless of whether it is in an arena or a celebration or in your home alone or in your vehicle as you sit in rush hour gridlock."
