Cynthia Rowley Music Chair, William Klein gets the show, Raquel Denise opens shop
Cynthia Rowley shows off her new collection; William Klein will have a significant retrospective, and designer Raquel Denise is opening a shop in Milan.
On Thursday night, designer Cynthia Rowley unveiled her latest collection with an interactive display of musical chairs in the Ballroom Villiard at Lotte New York Palace. Even though the designer refused to show off her fall collection during New York Fashion Week, she still wanted to put on a fun event to unveil the new style collections coming this summer.
"Eighty girls and boys - 80 original visions. This is almost entirely a new collection; boys in our vests and pajamas," Rowley said of the outfits of everyone in attendance, all of which the designer wore for the event. Around 60 evening looks - from voluminous and playful girls' dresses of varying lengths to tunics over trousers and more - are tagged as their current collection.
At 93, multidimensional artist William Klein will spend his professional day this summer in retrospect at the International Center for Photography.
The cultural destination in New York features fashion, street, and other photos of Klein and some of his paintings and films from June 3 to September 12. "William Klein: JA; Photographs, Paintings, Films, 1948-2013" will occupy the entire space of the museum in the center.
Born in New York, Klein began working as an assistant at Fernand Leger's studio in Paris in 1948. Trained as an artist, Klein became increasingly recognized for his fashion and street photography in the mid-1950s and the late 1980s. Her fashion photos have been featured in Vogue, and several books, including Life, is Good and Good for You in New York.
The retrospective will include a black and white image of a Harlem street scene in the 1950s and a view of Nina and Simone, Plaza de Espaa, Rome, 1958. There will also be a cute group photo from 2005 taken by Klein of Mark Jacobs and friends.
