COVID-19 India Update: India overtakes China as Coronavirus cases climb to 85,940; 2,752 causalities.

As per the Union Health Ministry, on Friday, fresh 3,967 COVID-19 positive cases were added, to push the tally over the 85,000 marks thereby overtaking China which has reported 84,649 cases till date. Coronavirus cases have risen for back to back days, taking the total count of cases to 85,940. The number of deaths due to the virus rose by 100 to take the casualties to 2,752 and on a positive note, 30,152 patients have recovered. 



 

There are also some states who are observing the second wave of Coronavirus, Kerala, Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Goa was the states who had either stopped reporting new infections or had very few new cases. However, in the last couple of days, these states have witnessed a noticeable rise in the number of new cases. This can also be attributed to the migrant workers returning to their native state, like Goa, for the past month, did not have a single new case, but after the ferrying of migrant workers, eight new infections were reported. 

 


Likewise, Himachal Pradesh also reported 34 new cases in the last week itself. Since 30th March, Kerala has reported new cases only in single digits, but on Thursday, 26 new coronavirus positive cases were discovered. Assam, where the infections were low, saw an alarming rise of 40 cases in this week. 

 

A total of 1019 patients have died in Maharashtra till date and with a total of 27,524 registered infections, the Uddhav Thackeray led state remains the worst affected state in India. Tamil Nadu overtook Gujarat in the total number of cases as it reported new 447 cases and took the tally to 9,674, which is just more than Gujarat's 9,591 as it registered 324 new cases. Gujarat's trend of the virus is very consistent and has not wavered like the likes of Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Delhi. 



Madhya Pradesh, however, showed progress as it declared nine districts "corona free".
