COVID-19 India Update: India 12th worst-hit nation; doubling time of Coronavirus cases falls to 12.2 days from 10.9.

The total number of COVID-19 positive cases fell to a three day low at 3525 cases, the death toll climbed to 2,415 as India reported its second-highest day in terms of a number of deaths. According to the Union Health Ministry, 122 causalities were reported on Tuesday as the total number of Coronavirus cases in India climbed to 74,281. 



In the last 14 days, although the number of cases has increased, its doubling time has decelerated to 12.2 days from 10.9, Health Minister Harsh Vardhan said. 24,385 patients recovered from the disease while one migrated taking the total number of active cases to 47,480. India's mortality rate was 3.2% while the recovery rate increased to 32.83 per cent, Harsh Vardhan revealed.



 


On 7th May, the doubling time of coronavirus cases rose to 10.2 days as cases in Maharashtra, Gujarat and Delhi, spiked. After this, the Health Ministry deputed central teams to the red zones to assist the state governments in containing the disease spread. The aim of the ministry was to focus on surveillance, contact tracing and testing. Harsh Vardhan also suggested that returnees must compulsory download the Aarogya Setu app so they can be monitored and given due medical treatment easily. 



Rigorous surveillance was also carried out for severe acute respiratory infections (SARI) and influenza-like illness (ILI) so as so to find out the hidden infections at an early stage. India's tally of coronavirus cases stood at 74,281 making India the 12th worst an affected nation in the world. 



India registered the lowest three day COVID-19 cases with 3525 infections, with doubling time, also increasing from 10.9 days to 12.2, showing progress in the efforts being carried out by health officials.
