COVID-19 India: Lockdown 4.0 imminent as India sees its biggest rise of Coronavirus cases, crosses 90000 mark; 128 prisoners in Jaipur jail infected.

Covid-19 positive cases in India crossed the 90000 marks with 4,987 new infections reported in the last 24 hours revealed the Union Health Ministry. This is the biggest single-day rise in the number of cases after last Saturday's total of 4,370 as India prepares for Lockdown 4.0. The extension is now imminent as many states have asked the centre to extend the lockdown. The third phase of lockdown will end on Sunday and in light of so many infections, it seems implausible that there will be a relief for citizens in Lockdown 4.0.  

In the last couple of days, as many as 128 prisoners along with a senior official tested positive for Coronavirus at Jaipur's district jail. Rajasthan has reported 332 cases since Friday of which 128 are the prisoners, implying 40% of cases are due to them.

Maharashtra has extended the lockdown till 31st may, joining Punjab and Telangana in the process. The western state saw a surge of 1,606 new infections as the state's tally crossed 30,000, its death toll has climbed to 1,135 with 67 new causalities. According to the State Health Department, Mumbai remains the worst affected city due to the global pandemic, as it registered 41 deaths on a single day. 

Amidst the high number of cases, to curb overcrowding, the state released 7200 prisoners and is set to release 10,000 more. Nation-wide deaths due to Coronavirus climbed to 2,872. 

Most states have agreed on strict lockdown of the red zones while green and orange zones might get further relief from the restrictions. All the states have sent their suggestions to the centre.

Globally, the pandemic has claimed lives of over 313,000 people and registered a total number of positive cases at 4.7 Million.
