Coronavirus Mumbai: Cases of Covid-19 rises in Worli Koliwada, BMC Tracks down 150 who came in contact with infected.
Most of the cities in almost all the countries in the world are facing what is called as the worst global health emergency the world has ever suffered called Coronavirus. This has led to more & more people getting infected which in many cases have also led to deaths. Mumbai is one of those cities in India that remains the worst affected. The Worli, Koliwada area of Mumbai, reported three positive cases on Wednesday which also included a senior citizen couple. This made the total number of patients infected due to the virus from Koliwada & also its nearby slums reach to 15 since Sunday.
The BMC, on the other hand, traced down 150 of the contacts of the already infected. Out of which, on Wednesday, 87 people were made to shift to a quarantine facility at Poddar Hospital, Worli. On Thursday, the remaining 73 people would get admitted to the hospital according to the civic officials. This decision was taken after the area saw three positive cases on Wednesday following which the BMC sealed Koliwada & the nearby slums to restrict any further public movement.
A BMC official on the same said that since people there live
in a densely populated area & use common sanitation facilities, the
officials have decided to shift them to a separate quarantine facility to
prevent the spread of the virus further. They will be taken for a 14-day
quarantine at the Poddar Hospital. This came as a necessary step as it would
have got challenging to monitor their health on a daily basis. The official
further said if they see symptoms, they can immediately be treated & once
contact tracing gets over, more people would be shifted to quarantine
facilities.
When it comes to slums like Worli, Koliwada, social distancing becomes impossible as the area is heavily populated & small houses & even smaller lanes are all adjacent to each other. Two nearby slums & Koliwada together make up a population of around 1 lakh & hence to contain the panic created among these areas was also challenging for the officials in the beginning, but with the help of local leaders, the residents co-operated with measures taken & understood the situation.
