Comedian Earthquake opens up about Dave Chapel attack: 'People are trying to drown out our voices'
"Dave did it like a pro. He is one of the greatest people I've ever met," comedian Earthquake, who played with Chappelle, told news about the attack on stage.
Comedian Earthquake assesses events during Dave Chapel's set at Netflix's Is a Joke Festival Tuesday night.
Earthquake, 58, also appeared at Tuesday's show, where Chappelle was attacked by a man who rushed onto the stage.
In a statement to the news, Earthquake said: "It was a great night, an epic night. The queues were great, and I got along with everyone on the show. The festival itself was the first time comedians had to come together in full diversity."
Earthquake welcomed Chappelle's response, sharing details of the attack, adding: "We wanted to draw the curtains, and this guy treated Dave like he was playing for the Rams! Dave was alone, and unfortunately, the guards had to deal with him. It stopped him at night, but it didn't stop him. The night went on walks. Dave does it like a pro. I've known him for 30 years. He's a master at his craft."
"It all boils down to this: People are trying to muffle our voices," Earthquake says.
The incident occurred at the end of a Chapelle show when a man in a black hood burst onto the stage at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, news confirmed on Wednesday.
The man pushed Chappelle and threw him to the ground. The attacker then endeavored to flee but was stopped by guards and members of Chapelle's team. The comedian and his security team are injured.
Police have identified the alleged assailant as 23-year-old Isaiah Lee and have charged Lee with criminal assault with a lethal weapon, news confirmed. The Hollywood Division of the LAPD arrested him on $30,000 bail. It was not immediately whether he had hired a lawyer.
