Carotid Stenosis: Called Carotid Artery Disease.

Carotid stenosis also called carotid artery disease applies to the narrowing of the major blood vessels in the neck, which can many times lead to stroke.

What is Carotid Stenosis disease?
The physical carotid arteries are 2 major blood vessels one on each side of the neck that delivers blood to the brain. Just like the coronary arteries or the heart, the carotid arteries can become unhealthy when there is a buildup of plaque inside them.

This plaque buildup generates a narrowing of the blood vessels, called stenosis. Over time, the narrowing can lead to difficulties with the blood stores to the brain, which can occur in a stroke. Conditions that develop one's risk of having carotid stenosis are smoking, high blood pressure and, high cholesterol, diabetes.

Who should be tested for carotid stenosis disease?
Testing for carotid stenosis is confirmed in people who just had a stroke and many times in people who become episodes of stroke-like symptoms. These symptoms include differences in vision in one eye, numbness or weakness on one side of the body and face, or difficulty speaking.

The goal of measuring carotid stenosis in these personalities is to lower their chance of having an extra stroke. This can be done besides medications to blood pressure and lower cholesterol or medications to lower the chance of aspirin and such as blood clots.

In some people with severe abbreviations, certain surgical procedures can be misbehaved to remove the plaque or open up the artery.
