Calum Chambers: Aston Villa bought a defender from Arsenal

Key points:

Calum Chambers from Arsenal to Aston Villa:

The 27-year-old, who has just completed five appearances for the Gunners this season, was out of the agreement in the summer and joined on a free transfer.

His signing follows the appearances of Philippe Coutinho on loan from Barcelona, Lucas Digne from Everton for £25m, and Robin Olsen on loan from Roma.

"It's a huge club, and they're in a wonderful moment," stated Chambers.

"It's a fascinating place to be, and everyone can notice that from the outside. Things are occurring here, and it's moving in the correct direction."

"For me, it was a no-brainer to enter a fantastic club. It was the honorable thing for me to do."

Chambers had been at Arsenal since entering them from Southampton in 2014.

He substitutes Axel Tuanzebe, whose loan from Manchester United was completed to join Italian side Napoli earlier this month.

Villa boss Steven Gerrard has also signed Uruguay international midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur from Juventus.

Chambers added: "The boss did very well at Rangers. He's a young, thrilling manager, and I can't delay working with him."
