Breathe 2 Review: Bad Air Quality.
A great suspense-thriller is the one that keeps you engaged
in its plot, twists, and unpredictability. Breath 2 Into The Shadows has
every bit of it, but it still falters as a series for one key element – logic.
Some of the twists and bridges to connect the characters, further actions feel
manipulated and contrived. Nothing wrong in it, just that as a viewer you
should not feel the manipulation, it should flow.
Amazon Prime Video’s original – Breathe 2, is a
compelling story of father’s love for her daughter, and till what lengths could
he go to protect his daughter. A set of four writers creates a “thrilling”
series which sheds light on different aspects of the human mind. Directed by Mayank
Sharma, the series is hampered by its slow narrative and logic-less
scenarios that don’t allow the series to connect with you. The series feels too
long and forced at 12 episodes. The narrative of the series never strikes a
chord except for its major twist and the ending of the series. But there is
some saving grace, the performances led by Abhishek Bachchan who debuts in the
digital world.
Abhishek Bachchan does a good job and shows moments of quality. Junior Bachchan gets an
author-backed role and he does not disappoint one bit. He delivers every
emotion digging deep under the skin of the character.
Amit Sadh continues his character of a conflicted robust cop Kabir
Sawant from season 1 of Breathe and delivers a solid performance. Nithya
Menen as Abhishek’s wife and Saiyami Kher (in a short role) provide
the natural hold in the series. Hrishikesh Joshi and Shrikant Verma bring the
much needed light moments and they feel genuine at it.
The cliffhangers at the end of every episode are good, the music although
repetitive is apt, and so is the cinematography by S. Bharathwaaj.
Watch or Not:
Breathe 2 Into The Shadows has the plot, twists, and
performances to be a potentially good gritty series but long drawn scenes,
manipulated narrative and forced story-bridges don’t make for a compelling
viewing experience.
