Australia has decided to reopen to international visitors on February 21

According to Prime Minister Scott Morrison's announcement, Australia is finally reopening to vaccinated tourists. From February 21, the country will welcome vaccinated tourists, putting an end to the country's long-standing pandemic travel restrictions.

The country's borders were closed in March 2020, and most foreign visitors were barred from entering. "It's almost two years since we decided to close the borders to Australia," the Prime Minister said during a press conference.

While international students and skilled migrants have been allowed to enter the country since last December, most foreign visitors have been denied entry until now.

Since the eruption  of the COVID pandemic, the country has taken stringent measures to combat it. Last year, even Australians were barred from leaving the country. But that is about to change as the country moves forward with reopening its borders to travel.

However, some strict measures remain in place in some parts of Australia. Western Australia, for example, continues to impose stringent restrictions. Non-residents are still barred from entering Western Australia, and Australians from other states are also barred from entering unless they have permission.

In Australia, there have been fewer infections in the last week, which has resulted in fewer hospital admissions. However, on Monday, the country reported slightly more than 23000 new cases. Since the 1st case of Omicron was discovered in the country in November, 2.4 million cases have been recorded.
