At The National, Aquarium care continue during the Pandemic.
There are some 20,000 animals at the National Aquarium in Baltimore and they are all still being cared for by hardworking staff members who come in every day during the coronavirus pandemic. It takes quite a few workers to keep animals fed and happy. Especially because they haven't had any visitors for months.
Baltimore's inner home to one of the city's crown jewel, the national aquarium. Inside, 20,000 animals from sloths to tropical fish and eleven different types of sharks. The aquarium usually seeing more than 1.2 million visitors a Jewel.
Now the rest of the country has been easily quiet since it closed in March because of coronavirus. Aquariums and zoos unlike a lot of other cultural institutions couldn't lock the door, turn off the lights and go home, the animals are great.
The staff has been wearing masks and of course social distancing but keeping their focus on making sure the fish and other animals are healthy and happy. All staff is coming to work every day and providing incredible care to animals. Making sure they are thriving.
And keeping them well fed is essential work. First all the Australian Barramundi. Fish who eating live crickets. The aquarium is just 1 of 226 accredited Zoos and aquariums that closed because of COVID.
At NewYork's Bronx Zoo, animals and staff are missing some of the 2 million guests who visit each year. The staff has split into two teams, making a meal, caring for the giraffes, penguins, and bears.
