Apple's latest budget phone is fast and has 5G at $429
Key takeaways:
- Apple's new iPhone SE 2022 begins at $429 and proposes 5G and the same current processor as the more costly iPhone 13, starting at $699 for the Mini model.
- However, the layout is old, and it drags on battery life and camera quality.
- It's OK if you require to run the new apps, but the iPhone 13 is more suitable for most people if you have the budget.
Apple's all-new 2022 budget phone with 5G:
Apple's new $429 iPhone SE releases Friday.
I've been testing it for the previous several days, and it's a good option for people who require an iPhone without all the fancy stuff you'll spend on the iPhone 13, such as a more excellent screen and better cameras.
The iPhone SE is $30, almost the identically named model released in 2020 for $399. It presents nearly all of that model, including support for quicker 5G cellular, stronger glass, and the same high-speed processor that appears in the more pricey iPhone 13 (which starts at $699 for the Mini model). But it seems inflation and supply chain restrictions could also be playing a role. I think Apple could boost the request by dropping the cost a bit, considering customers are getting crowded everywhere else right now, from the grocery shop to the gas pump.
The iPhone SE isn't as famous as Apple's other phones. According to Counterpoint Research, the 2020 model of the iPhone SE accounted for 12% of all iPhone sales from its release till Q4 2021. However, the addition of 5G could make it a tempting option in global markets such as Europe and China, where Apple didn't yet have a low-priced 5G phone to contend with budget Android phones.
