Amidst lockdown in the country, epic serial Ramayan tops the TRP charts with its re-runs making a world record.
The much talked about Ramanand Sagar's magnum opus "Ramayan" still steals the show even when we are in 2020 amidst a crucial situation the world is facing called coronavirus & in between the country that has been in lockdown since many days. The show has recently made a world record for garnering the highest number of TRPs & globally becoming the most viewed entertainment program. The original telecast of the show happened in 1987 & was written, produced & directed by Ramanand Sagar.
The decision of the re-telecast of the show was taken in March by Doordarshan National soon after PM Narendra Modi announced a nationwide lockdown across the country to prevent further spread of COVID-19. Recent reports from the channel suggest that the show on April 16 was watched by 7.7 crore people globally.
Exclaiming the news on their official Twitter handle, DD National posted, “Rebroadcast of Ramayana on Doordarshan smashes viewership records worldwide, the show becomes most watched entertainment show in the world with 7.7 crore viewers on 16th of April.” In another tweet, the channel thanked all the viewers for making this happen & posted, “Thanks to all our viewers! #RAMAYAN – WORLD RECORD! Highest Viewed Entertainment Program Globally.”
The re-telecasted show winded
up its last episode on April 18, followed by the re-telecast of "Uttar
Ramayan" which will be airing its final episode on Saturday. Reports also
say the audiences have loved Uttar Ramayan as much as they loved the re-run of
Ramayan.
The serial would get replaced by Ramanand Sagar's 1993 magnum opus "Shri Krishna" which starred Sarvadaman D. Banerjee as Krishna. It will start its re-run from Sunday.
Ramayan also became a cult show in the late 80s because of the stellar performances of the actors. Arun Govil as Ram, Dipika Chikhlia as Sita, Sunil Lahri as Lakshman & Dara Singh as Hanuman stole the show with their believable performances so much so that many fans then even touched their feet to offer prayers to them at various events thinking they were real Ram, Sita, Lakshman & Hanuman.
