Air India Employees' Jobs Are Guaranteed For A Year.
Key Sentence:
- In the end, the state-owned airline Air India was sold
- VRS benefit to workers if retiring after one year, a medical facility for retired workers will continue
After years of hard work by the central government, the debt-ridden state-owned airline Air India was finally sold. The government had also officially announced the sale of the airline to Tata Sons. Speculation is rife that Air India, which will go from a government to a private company, will lay off employees or give them VRS.
However, the government has dismissed the speculation.
Rajiv Bansal, Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation, said that Air India has 12,09 employees, of which 2,09 are permanent, and 4,001 are on contract. Apart from this, Air India Express has 12 employees. Tata Sons will not be able to lay off all these employees for the following year.
If the company retires after one year, the employees will have to benefit from the Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS). Adequate consideration has been given to the interests of employees and service retirees when selling to Air India. The PF, graduation, etc., of the employees, will all remain the same.
That will not change. The post-retirement medical facility will also continue. Air India's brands have eight logos, which will now be handed over to Tata Sons. The company will not be able to transfer this logo to anyone for five years. Even after five years, it can never be transferred to a foreign institution.
