21 MIG-29s From Russia, 12 Sukhoi To Be Purchased From HAL,59 MIG-29s To Be Upgraded

Amid the ongoing border dispute with China, India has been active in strengthening its military. The Defense Ministry has approved the purchase of 33 warplanes from Russia. India will buy 12 SU-30 MKIs and 21 MiG-29s and upgrade the Air Force's 59 MiG-29s.


High maneuvers at night or during the day are expected with the ability to intercept and destroy supersonic aircraft — fighter jets and orders for 248 air missiles beyond the Visual Range Astra air — as well as long-range of 1000 kilometers.
 The cost of procuring and upgrading MIG-29 from Russia is estimated at Rs 7,418 crores, while the estimated cost of the Su-30 MKI will be ₹ 10,730 crores, the statement said.
