Since
a few days, the country also hears news & updates about the locust attacks
that are taking place in many parts of India. On top of the current scenario of
the world that is gripped in the hands of coronavirus, there are other bizarre
happenings that are taking place, drawing the attention of many. One amongst
these is the recent attacks by locusts. These are like a collection of species
which are short-horned grasshoppers having a swarming phase. They are known as
species that can destroy anything that comes in their path & also
considered to be a threat to food supply affecting the livelihoods of millions.
PM Modi says he is confident
the country will overcome this crisis.
However, Prime Minister of
India, Narendra Modi on Sunday said that he is confident that even though many
parts of India is under the locust attack, the country would be able to deal
with this issue & crisis that affects the agriculture sector.
Talking on 'Mann Ki Baat', his
monthly radio programme, in its 65th edition, PM Modi said, "While the
eastern part of India is facing natural calamity faced by the cyclone, many
parts of the country are under locust attack. These attacks have reminded us
how much damage this small insect can cause. Locust attacks run into several
days, a huge area gets affected."

He
further added saying that all are using modern resources to help farmers
whether it is the centre, the state government, the agricultural department or
the local administration. He said that he feels confident that we would be able
to deal with this crisis & even save a lot in the agriculture sector.
The Ministry of environment, forest & climate
change says that the locust attacks have damaged crops & vegetables.
Locust swarms that entered
India from Pakistan have already entered Rajasthan, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh
& Punjab. A spokesperson from the Ministry
of environment, forest & climate change also said that the attacks by these
locusts have already damaged vegetables & standing cotton crops, making
Rajasthan the most affected state.
