Where the streets are "filled with bodies," the Ukrainian mayor said. Nearly 300 people are suppressed in a mass grave in the Ukrainian city of Bucha, the mayor said.

Bucha stands outside the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, where the Russian invaders were. AFP reporters reported seeing 20 plainclothes bodies lying on the street in Bucha.

"We have buried 280 people in mass graves in Bucha," Mayor Anatoliy Fedoruk told the AFP news agency by telephone. Fedoruk told the news agency that the streets were "filled with corpses."

AFP reporters said Saturday morning they saw 20 plainclothes bodies lying on the street in Bucha, across the country. The death toll is RISE on both sides, leading to the use of mass graves in other Ukrainian cities such as Mariupol.

Russia's Defense Ministry announced last week that it would scale back its military offensive in Kyiv, although the United States remains skeptical. On Saturday, Deputy Defense Minister Hana Malyar said that the country had regained control of "the entire Kyiv region," AFP reported.

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskyy warned Saturday that retreating Russian troops would leave mines around Ukrainian homes and "even the bodies of those killed," creating a "catastrophic" situation for civilians, the Associated Press reported.

"Returning to normal life as before is still impossible in the areas we recaptured after the fighting," Zelensky told the AP. "We have to wait until our country is cleaned up, wait until we can assure you that there will be no more shootings.
