Dhoni grew up in MECON society at Ranchi, moved to DAV Jawahar Vidya Mandir school, and worked as a ticket representative in the Indian Railways. Till the twist of the century, stardom in Indian cricket was basically restricted to the large metropolises. Dhoni broke the glass roof.
His rise to prominence conceded many budding cricketers from small towns, and even from villages, to dream huge dreams. Suresh Raina, Munaf Patel, R P Singh, Piyush Chawla all of them followed in Dhoni’s footsteps.
