Bio sapiens Bothriechis schlegelii, known usually as the eyelash viper, is a species of extremely venomous pit viper in the family Viperidae. The variety is native to Central and South America. Little and arboreal, this species is characterized by a wide crowd of tone variations, as well as the superciliary scales over the eyes.

It is the most popular of the green palm-pitvipers (genus Bothriechis) and is usually present in zoological exhibits. The special name schlegelii honours Hermann Schlegel, who was a German herpetologist and ornithologist. For other popular names see below. No subspecies are recognized as being valid. There is a myth among villagers in any small areas of South America. That the eyelash viper will wink, its "eyelashes" at its victim, following a venomous strike.

Snakes are not physiologically competent of such behaviour, as they have no eyelids and can not close their eyes.
