On the disputed border of North Sikkim, a conflict occurred between the Indian and Chinese soldiers, where both sides sustained minor injuries. Chinese People's Liberation Army and Indian Army came face to face on Saturday, near the Naku La sector, ahead of Maguthang, where they confronted each other. Naku La is a pass, more than 5000 metres above the sea level in North Sikkim. Sources claimed that there was a display of combative behaviour and that minor injuries were sustained by both the nation's units. However, an immediate interaction at the local level and astute dialogue between the two armies took place and the units disengaged. 

The face-off was "temporary", of "short duration" and wasn't a stand-off. Sources said that these kind of incidents usually happen at places with some unresolved boundary issues.

This particular incident was "after a long time", and conflicts of this nature are averted mutually by the two armies, with dialogue as per the protocols. This face-off comes three years after a stand-off between India and China, which too happened across the Sikkim border. 

The stand-off happened after China built a road in the south of Doklam, an area which was reportedly claimed by Bhutan and China as theirs. It lasted 73 days and had intensified tensions between India and China. During the 2017 stand-off, units of Chinese People's Liberation Army and Indian Army were at loggerheads and incidents of scuffles, and stone-pelting in Ladakh were reported.
