Charities offer a wide range of support to those affected by war. Some have received high ratings (three to four stars) from Charity Navigator, which rates the group's effectiveness, transparency, and other factors.

  • GlobalGiving supports non-profit organizations around the world through crowdfunding. For example, the Ukraine Crisis Relief Fund is working towards a $7 million goal to provide refugees with food, water, shelter, and other assistance.
  • Direct Relief is working to implement the list of medical needs provided to organizations by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.
  • Care, a 75-year-old organization working in 100 countries, provides food, water, and hygiene items to those affected in Ukraine. Donate here because Care wants to support 4 million people.
  • Doctors Without Borders, the 50-year-old Nobel Prize-winning organization, has teams in Ukraine and worldwide working to send staff and medical supplies to the worst-hit areas. Please donate here to support his efforts in Ukraine and around the world.
  • Save the Children, a century-old organization with operations in 100 countries, has the Ukraine Crisis Relief Fund, which aims to provide children and families with food, hygiene supplies, finances, and more.
  • The International Rescue Committee has a team working in Poland to help displaced families. Founded in 1933, the organization operates in 40 countries, and donations go towards food, Care, and other emergency supplies in Ukraine, Afghanistan, Syria, and elsewhere. Donate for IRC work around the world here.
  • Razom, a Ukraine-focused charity founded in 2014, provides medical care to the country and works to "strengthen the voice of the Ukrainian people." He was not praised by Charity Navigator but was widely covered in the American media. Donate here.
  • These are just a few groups you can support; more here, here, and here. (And here's the Guardian's guide for the UK and Australian residents.)
