Key takeaways:

  • Elon Musk continues to crush Twitter over its published metrics after stating that his $44 billion agreement to purchase the firm is on hold.
  • He took a “casual poll” on Twitter and requested the SEC to look at its results.
  • “Hello, @SECGov, anyone home?” Musk wrote.

Amid his contract to acquire Twitter, Elon Musk has asked the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to peek into the social network’s user numbers.

Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, wrote in an informal Twitter poll on Tuesday, “Twitter argues that >95% of everyday active users are real, unique humans.

Does anyone have that experience?” In reply to a follower, he said, who urged the SEC to start an inquiry, “Hello @SECGov, anyone home?”

The SEC has been conscious of Twitter’s murky metrics for years.

Musk decided to purchase Twitter the previous month for $44 billion but has since said the agreement is delayed as he looks into bots, spam, and fakes. Twitter has stated it still hopes the transaction to go through at the agreed-upon price of $54.20 a share.

Investors have been abandoning the shares on worried that Musk will leave his contract, which would push him to spend a $1 billion breakup fee.

Twitter’s stock has given up all its profits since Musk first revealed his 9% stake in the firm early last month.
