Goswami got a setback on Tuesday, as his plea seeking transfer of the
investigation of a case, filed against him was rejected by the Supreme Court of
India. The case was filed against Arnab for allegedly defaming the Congress
interim president, Sonia Gandhi, and Arnab wanted the case to be transferred to
the CBI. Furthermore, the apex court also refused to quash the FIRs filed
against him.
On April 14th, when many
migrants gathered outside the Bandra railway station, based on fake news, the
editor-in-chief of Republic TV, Arnab Goswami on 'The Debate' allegedly made hateful
remarks and was booked for that offence. Some weeks later, after the Palghar
lynching, Arnab Goswami on his show, asked certain questions on the incident to
Sonia Gandhi and made nasty remarks on her silence on that issue. This
triggered the Congress workers who filed multiple FIRs against him across
various states.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday
extended the journalist's interim protection from arrest by three weeks. The
main court stated, "Right of a journalist under 19 1(a) higher, free
citizens can't exist if news media can't speak." Arnab's counsel, Senior
Advocate Harish Salve, in the previous hearing, had accused Congress of using
"arm - twisting tactics" and underlined the 12 hour-long police
interrogation of Arnab as unnecessary.
He had also said, "They're
planning to stifle an unpleasant voice. This is a political party targeting a
journalist. They want to teach this journalist a lesson." Objecting to
Salve's plea, Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal had said, "CBI investigation
will go into your hands," and asked Arnab Goswami to "stop this
communal violence and hate mongering".
