He said British politics and public life "will have a more turbulent decade and, as I said, I want my voice back." He wrote that "he will leave behind many wonderful memories and wonderful co-workers."
"But I've been moving to Global since New Years to write and present political and cultural events and write for newspapers." He added, "I've been doing the Andrew Marr show every Sunday morning for 16 years, and that's probably more than enough time for everyone!"
Mar began his career in the press, including as editor of The Independent in the 1990s. He suffered a stroke in 2013 and spoke about his experience of contracting Covid earlier this year, possibly at the G8 summit in Cornwall, despite having been double-vaccinated.
