Tiger Roll's place as a legend is undoubtedly cemented by Michael O'Leary, a man who is well-versed in horse racing, for singing his praises, even in 2018, when the owner was ignorant of how much he would go on to do.
But it does seem stale; folklore. In sports, the word "legend" is bandied about far too much. What actually constitutes a legend? In terms of horse racing, whether it's the legacy they leave behind, the winnings they've amassed, the way they've sailed to victory, or even a mix of all three. Whatever classification you'd give one, Tiger Roll most definitely fits the description.
In the last stages of the small champion's career, we witness Gordon Elliott's hero journey to Prestbury Park as he approaches the Cheltenham Festival, which occurs just days after his 13th birthday. After leaving a legacy on the lush green of Gloucestershire grass, it may be the last time we witness the stalwart take to the course.
