Key Takeaways:

  • Queen Elizabeth II invited Paddington Bear to tea as part of her Diamond Jubilee celebrations.
  • The film was well-received by Queen Elizabeth's fans. Princess Charlotte, her great-granddaughter, can be seen beaming with happiness after hearing about the film in photos from the celebrations.

Paddington Bear was invited to tea by Queen Elizabeth II as part of her Diamond Jubilee celebrations. The Queen is witnessed with Paddington at her Buckingham Palace in a video sketch that aired just before the event honoring the British monarch's 70 years on the throne. They had a tea party and also some surprise sandwiches across from one other.

Paddington, played by Ben Whishaw, is shown ipping tea directly from the pot in the video. At his antics, the Queen makes the cutest expressions. When the kindly bear squanders the cake, he reaches into his red hat for his emergency marmalade sandwich. The Queen, on the other side, takes him by surprise. "I do, too," she adds as she pulls a sandwich by one of her small purses, addressing the age-old question about what she keeps in her purses. That's where I keep all of my belongings. "I'll put it aside for now." Paddington is immediately fascinated by her and thanks to her 'for everything.' The Queen shows her appreciation for his kindness.

The film was well-received by the Queen's followers. Princess Charlotte, her great-granddaughter, can be seen grinning with delight after seeing the video in images from the celebrations. Fans also remembered Queen's clip from the London Olympics, wherein she featured alongside Daniel Craig as James Bond. "On par with, if not more increased than, the James Bond sequence from the Olympics." One tweet read, "The Queen drinking tea with Paddington – incredible that she still can surprise at 96 and then after 70 years on the throne."

"When Paddington Bear and the Queen had tea." Exquisite. Another tweet stated, "One to watch on repeat (& finally after 70 years we discover what the Queen keeps in her handbag."

The four-day Platinum Jubilee celebrations in the United Kingdom to honor Queen Elizabeth's 70 years on the throne come to a close on Sunday with a pageant through central London and tens of thousands of people anticipated to attend nationwide street parties. Ed Sheeran, Queen, and more than 100 "national treasures" ranging from retired soccer player Gary Lineker to kids' tv puppet Basil Brush will march through the city with military bands, artists, and dancers.
