LeBron James and Luka Dončić Combine for 60 Points to Lead Lakers Past Pelicans

Tuesday night in the NBA saw a mix of superstar brilliance, rookie showcases, and record breaking losing streaks across a six game slate. The headlines were dominated by the Los Angeles Lakers' star duo and a historic slump in Indiana, while several games came down to the final possession.

Lakers Duo Combines for 60 in New Orleans

The Los Angeles Lakers continued their winning ways with a 111-103 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans. LeBron James and Luka Dončić were in perfect sync, with each scoring 30 points. Dončić was particularly lethal in the closing minutes, hitting two off balance "bail out" three pointers as the shot clock expired. The Lakers trailed by nine late in the third quarter but opened the final period with a decisive 18-4 run. Despite a career high 41 points from Trey Murphy III, New Orleans suffered their eighth consecutive loss.

Pacers Hit Rock Bottom Against Cavaliers

In Indianapolis, the Cleveland Cavaliers mounted a late comeback to defeat the Indiana Pacers 120-116. Darius Garland was the hero for Cleveland, scoring 14 of his 29 points in the fourth quarter to erase a nine point deficit. The loss was a historic one for the Pacers, marking their 13th straight defeat a new franchise record in the NBA era. While Pascal Siakam led Indiana with 22 points, the Cavaliers’ interior duo of Evan Mobley (20 points) and Jarrett Allen (19 points, 12 rebounds) proved too strong in the paint.

Mavericks Snap Road Skid in Sacramento

The Dallas Mavericks finally found success on the road, edging the Sacramento Kings 100-98 to snap a seven game away losing streak. The game was a showcase for rookie standout Cooper Flagg, who tallied 20 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists. Dallas held a slim lead throughout the fourth quarter and survived a late scare when DeMar DeRozan’s game winning attempt missed at the buzzer. The Kings have now lost six in a row as they struggle to close out tight contests.

Defensive Battles and Close Finishes

Around the rest of the league, the Minnesota Timberwolves utilized their size to blow out the Miami Heat 122-94. Anthony Edwards led a balanced attack with 26 points, while the Wolves' defense held Miami to under 45% shooting. In Memphis, the Grizzlies survived a thriller against the San Antonio Spurs, winning 106-105. Victor Wembanyama put up 30 points for San Antonio, but Memphis held firm in the final seconds to secure the win. Lastly, the Washington Wizards defeated the Orlando Magic 120-112, led by a strong second half from Kyle Kuzma and rookie Alex Sarr.
