Cyclone Nisarga made landfall in Raigadh district at around 12:30 pm today as 3 deaths were reported due to the storm. Mumbai and parts of Gujarat was relieved as the cyclone didn’t directly hit those coasts. As per the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), said that the cyclone swerved past Mum
Pune and Nashik braced for impact as the ravaging Cyclone Nisarga weakens as per IMD.
Cyclone Nisarga made landfall in Raigadh district at around
12:30 pm today as 3 deaths were reported due to the storm. Mumbai and parts of
Gujarat was relieved as the cyclone didn’t directly hit those coasts. As per the
Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), said that the cyclone swerved past
Mumbai and Gujarat and has now weakened, moving northeastwards
towards Nashik, Nandurbar and Dhule districts. These districts may witness
gusty winds with heavy rains.
Winds blew at 90-110 kmph:
Mumbai, Thane, Raigadh and Ratnagiri witnessed winds gusting over 100
kmph and South Gujarat saw winds at a maximum of 80 kmph after the cyclone made
landfall near Alibaug. Several trees were seen uprooted in Mumbai even
though the Cyclone maintained its distance from the maximum city. Major parts
of the city saw rainfall and Pune even faced water-logging in several
low-lying areas of the city.
Flights resumed their operations from 6 pm onwards in Mumbai after IMD
cleared air travel to and from the city. Earlier flight operations were
suspended between 2.30 pm and 7 pm, in
view of cyclone Nisarga’s impact.
As per the latest IMD’s report, rainfall reported on Wednesday till 5:30 pm IST
in Mumbai (Colaba) was 47mm, Pune – 20.2mm, Mahabaleshwar -84mm, Satara – 51mm
and Ratnagiri-38mm.
Cyclone Nisarga deviates past south Gujarat and Mumbai:
The Cyclone Nisarga deviated from its path and saved south Gujarat and Mumbai
of massive destruction. It is set to weaken into a deep depression in the
coming hours and according to the experts of IMD, the situation is under control. A total of 3 deaths were reported until 10 pm
in separate incidents due to the cyclone storm. The NDRF teams evacuated
citizens near the seashores and have been helping people facing difficulty due
to the cyclone. Energy department also revealed it resumed power supply in
Ratnagiri after the cyclone advanced past the Raigadh district.
