Whether you're a mother or not.

I believe I can safely say that I'm not the only one who hasn't worn skinny jeans in the last year. Of course, it's also not fair to blame this solely on the fact that I've alternated between leggings and loungewear for the past two years. But there's nothing worse than squeezing myself into a pair of constricting skinnies with no give, especially when they've been on their way out for more than a year.

On that note, I've missed other types of jeans. Is it comfortable to wear tracksuits and other loose-fitting clothing? Yes, absolutely. But did I feel like myself? Not at all... denim is an essential part of my wardrobe and fashion identity. So, if you're looking for something more stylish - but still comfortable - to wear to work, let me introduce you to the mom jean.

This shape was very uncool for a couple of decades (even the name implies their lack of trendiness), but they're now firmly back in fashion thanks to our nostalgia for all things the 90s. So we've rounded up the best mom jeans to replace your joggers with, as well as how to wear them.

So, what exactly are mom jeans?

Mom jeans, boyfriend jeans, straight jeans, high-waisted jeans – the possibilities for denim are limitless. So, how do you tell the discrepancy between your mom's jeans and your girlfriend's jeans?

If you look at 90s mom-jean inspiration, you'll notice that mom jeans are high-waisted, have less stretch than classic denim, and are cut to have a baggy fit, especially over the bum and thighs. They then taper down around the ankles, creating the 1980s and early 1990s silhouette.
