Dallas Mavericks vs Denver Nuggets 2025: Key Matchups and Injury Updates

The Denver Nuggets (21-7) enter this contest as one of the most efficient teams in the league. Led by three time MVP Nikola Jokic, who is currently averaging a triple double with roughly 28.9 PPG, 12.1 RPG, and 10.8 APG, Denver boasts the NBA's top rated offense. Jamal Murray has also found his rhythm, providing the perimeter scoring needed to balance Jokic's dominance in the paint.

The Mavericks (11-19), while struggling for consistency this season, have shown they can play the role of "giant slayer." Earlier in December, Dallas secured a 131-121 victory over Denver, fueled by a 32 point performance from Anthony Davis and an impressive showing from rookie sensation Cooper Flagg. Dallas currently ranks in the top ten for defensive rating, making this a classic "unstoppable force vs immovable object" scenario.

Injury Report: Key Players Sidelined

Injuries will play a massive role in the outcome of this game. For the Denver Nuggets, the rotation is shortened as Aaron Gordon (hamstring) and Christian Braun (ankle) remain out. This puts additional pressure on young forward Peyton Watson and recent addition Jonas Valanciunas to provide secondary scoring and rim protection.

The Mavericks' injury report is even more significant. Star point guard Kyrie Irving remains out as he continues his recovery from knee surgery. Additionally, center Dereck Lively II is sidelined for the season. On a positive note, Anthony Davis is expected to suit up despite dealing with calf injury management, and Cooper Flagg is available, albeit playing with a splint on his right thumb. The status of Max Christie (illness) remains day-to-day.

Key Storylines to Watch

The primary battle involves Nikola Jokic’s facilitation against a Dallas defense that prides itself on limiting three point efficiency. If the Mavericks can force the ball out of Jokic’s hands and make Denver’s bench beat them, they have a chance to repeat their early season upset. Conversely, if Denver exploits Dallas's lack of depth at the center position due to Lively’s absence, it could be a long night for the Mavs.

Expect a high scoring affair if Denver controls the tempo, but if Dallas can slow the game down and rely on the Davis Flagg duo, the American Airlines Center could witness another Maverick victory.
