3900 new COVID-19 cases and 195 deaths were reported since Monday as the death toll in India reached 1,568, and the number of infections rose to 46,433 due to the Coronavirus pandemic. According to the Health Ministry, this is the highest single-day surge in the number of cases and fatalities since the outbreak of the virus in the country. The total number of cured patients stands at around 12,726.
The number of COVID-19 cases is likely to rise
steeply in the coming days as Lockdown 3.0 came into effect from Monday with
easing the restrictions. On the first day itself, large crowds were seen on
roads with the opening of Liquor shops, even in red zones of the country.
Social Distancing went for a toss as huge crowds were spotted at several
places, not just around the liquor shops. Moving the migrants back to their
native places is also adding fuel, worsening the situation, in many states.
In
Karnataka, Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa has appealed the migrant workers to
stay back in the state and has promised them relief measures.
In the evening briefing Joint Secretary, Health Ministry, Luv Aggarwal said, "We persuaded certain states as we were not receiving reports of cases/deaths on time from them, after which the cases have been reported, and we have seen a spike in death cases today". He also urged that community participation is the need of the hour to break the chain.
Worldwide,
COVID-19 cases have gone past the 3.6 Million marks with 252,758 deaths. The
death toll and the rate of new cases have slowed indeed compared to last month.
Putin's Russia reported over 10,102 cases in the last 24 hours taking their tally to 155,370. The United States is still the worst affected nation with a death toll of 67,913 and 11,66,083 total coronavirus cases.
