What is a flex engine? How is it different from a standard petrol engine?

Flex-fuel engines have a fuel blender sensor that can use many types of fuel in a single tank. The vehicle can be run on pure petrol, a mixture of gasoline and ethanol in any medium or pure ethanol. For this, some modifications are required in the fuel pump installed in a standard petrol engine. So that ethanol can have a chemical reaction and get the energy to drive. Changes have also been made to the engine's control module.

According to the Union Minister, the price of ethanol-blended petrol used in this engine will be Rs 60-62 per liter. Consumers can save Rs 35-40 per liter by using this. 

Petrol is now integrated with 0 to 5% ethanol in most states of India, though up to 10% is being incorporated in many forms. The government has set a target of 20% ethanol-blended fuel over the next two years.

Such vehicles are prevalent in Brazil, America, Canada, and Europe. In Brazil, where ethanol is the largest producer, such cars have reached 80 percent.
