Boris Johnson, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, on whether Russia can 'win' the war

Key Takeaways:

  • Boris Johnson, the British Prime Minister, indicated that Russia has a "realistic hope" of winning the war in Ukraine, and that the fight may go until the end of next year.
  • The British Prime Minister visited Ukraine recently and met with President Volodymyr Zelensky.

On Friday, UK PM Boris Johnson stated a "realistic prospect" that Russia will win the war against Ukraine and that the conflict might last until the end of next year. During his two-day visit to India, he was asked to remark on Western officials' assessment that Russia may win the war, which could last a long period.

"Yes. Look at it. The unfortunate part is that this is a real possibility. Of course, Putin has a massive army. He is in a precarious political situation due to a disastrous blunder. His only alternative now is to keep grinding the Ukrainians down with his grinding strategy, led by the artillery.

He is now on the brink of securing a land bridge in Mariupol. At this point, the situation is, I'm afraid, unpredictable. We just have to be realistic about it, "Boris Johnson stated.

"But we've also seen the Ukrainians' great bravery and readiness to battle. And I'll tell you something else. No matter what...it could take a long time, I agree, but he will not be able to conquer the Ukrainian people's spirit. That is a verifiable fact.

On the contrary, he does every day to fortify and reinforce the desire to resist. "The UK PM went on to say that the country now intends to send tanks to Poland.

Countries that support Ukraine must now consider what further they can do, such as intelligence cooperation, military training, economic sanctions, and increased pressure on Putin. According to Johnson, Ukraine must be reinforced to make it impenetrable to Russian forces.

The PM of the United Kingdom recently visited Ukraine and met with President Volodymyr Zelensky. On Friday, Cameron became the first western leader to admit Putin might win the war, and he also announced that the UK embassy in Ukraine would reopen next week.
