After weeks of reports alleging that he and his aides staged and did attend parties in his Downing Street office as well as a residence at a time while millions of Britons have been under Covid-19 lockdowns, Johnson is facing calls to resign.

Ellwood, the chair of parliament's defense select commission and a former junior minister was the most recent Conservative lawmaker to announce that he would write Johnson a letter of no confidence.

"I will be submitting my letter to the 1922 Committee today," Ellwood said, referring to a group that represents lawmakers who do not work for the government.

If 15 percent of the 359 Conservative associates in parliament write to the chairman of the 1922 Committee urging one, a confidence vote can be called.

The scandals, according to Ellwood, are detracting from Britain's response to major issues such as the Ukraine crisis.

"I believe it is past time for the prime minister to seize control of the situation. Rather than waiting for the eventual 54 letters to be submitted, he should call a vote of confidence himself, "According to Ellwood, who spoke to Sky News.
